Pilot light Going Out.
Pilot light going out used to be a common problem, less common nowadays with the newer boilers as they ignite electronically. But here is what you can do if this happens to your boiler.
Your pilot light could be extinguishing due to drafts. Try reigniting the boiler following the manufacturer’s instructions. If it continues to happen for no obvious reason, then unfortunately, it may be a sign you need to replace your boiler.
Don’t worry if this is the case, you can get a quote quickly and easily online HERE. You can even choose to spread the cost of your new boiler if you would like to.
Noisy Boiler.
Boilers that bang, gurgling pipes and radiators, we have all heard those sounds on occasion that can send feelings of dread through your body! Don’t panic, there may be a simple solution.
One possible reason for gurgling could be that there is air in your system, try bleeding your radiators to see if that helps to resolve the issue.
It could also be due to the pipework expanding and contracting, which is perfectly normal, or debris in your system which may be the case in hard water areas.
If these don’t seem to be the cause, then it could be a more problematic issue that will require an experienced heating engineer to resolve or diagnose the problem. In this case, you can book an engineer visit for a time and date that suits you by using our online booking system. We can then pop over, take a look and advise as to the necessary course of action.
Leaking boiler.
Do not attempt to fix a leaking boiler yourself, boilers are potentially dangerous and other than very basic tasks as referenced by the manufacturer, they should only be maintained or repaired by qualified heating technicians.
In the event of a leaking boiler, don’t try to repair this, simply pick up the phone and let us use our experience and knowledge to swiftly identify the issue and offer solutions to fix the problem. Our friendly advisors are waiting to help you.
Low pressure.
Low pressure can be a sign of a leak, in which case, please call us immediately, and we can help. If no leak is apparent, the low pressure may be able to be repressurised. Ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions if you do this. Should the boiler not maintain the pressure or if it needs repressurising on a regular basis, then there is likely a faulty boiler part causing the issue. Contact us to arrange a call-out, we can advise you of the necessary work needed or the cost of a replacement boiler if needed.
Cold Radiators.
Cold Radiators are likely to be caused by either air in your central heating system or, if they are cold at the bottom, this could be due to a build-up of debris and sludge.
Try using a radiator key to bleed the radiators and remove the air. If this fails to work then a system flush may be beneficial to remove the debris from the central heating system and can help prolong the life of your boiler.

Condensate pipe freezing.
If you have a condensing boiler, you may experience noisy pipes during cold weather, which could be caused by the pipe that carries the condensate to the external drain becoming frozen.

The boiler switches off.
If your boiler switches off, check the pressure as detailed above, ensure the thermostat is working correctly and bleed the radiators. If you have tried these simple tasks and are still experiencing difficulties, it is best to contact an engineer.
Boilers like our cars require regular maintenance to ensure they continue to provide the best performance for the foreseeable future. Regular maintenance can prolong the life of your boiler, reduce your costs and increase efficiency in your home while reducing the risk of future breakdowns.
